Visual aids and new moon observance:
I disagree with Mrs Gordon’s statement in the last paragraph. Btw, I have been consistently observing the new moon longer than Mrs Gordon. When I was supplying my new moon photos to Nehemia, Devorah was only subbing for her ex-husband when Nehemia was touring the US.
As you know, we do not live as the patriarchs lived. They were in the fields and predominately without strong artificial light for the nighttime. They used the lights of Gen 14 for daily life. I contend that the patriarchs were more contected to the sky then we are. Shoot, today the people in the big cities have the night sky drowned out by the lights of the city. They dont EVER know where to look for the moon and frequently cant see it.
My corrective glasses are visual aids, should I be disallowed from using them to watch for the moon?
And no. There is no image burned into the retina looking through binoculars, if there were then the moon I see in the sky following using binoculars would be as big as the imagine in the binoculars and it’s not.
These are my steps to observing a new moon.
-after I set up my equipment I use the INMS chart and a compass to find a distint land mark below where the moon should appear.
-I train my eye towards this land mark and from time to time use my binoculars. Sometimes I see the new moon with my naked eye before I see it with binoculars
Since Mrs Gordon’s statement is based on experts who know where to train their visual aids (as she is given the SAME INFO) I think if the former Mrs Gordon feels visual aids are not acceptable then I strongly suggest she do away with the monthly charts that those expert observers provide to us to know where to train our eyes and just wing it. After all that chart is a visual aid for the naked eye.
