I want to report on the winter weather here in Israel.

First of all the good steady gentle rains continue to fall here in the north. The rains have turned cold.

Here’s the very, very interesting part. There is all ready a greening process happening to the land!

The domestic wheat is not up yet BUT I’ve seen (and eaten to be sure) little emerging wild mustard sprouts. I’ve also seen blades of wild grains, probably oates and barley. If you know your bible then you will know that until the cereal grass presents it’s head or grain holder you can’t tell What the grass is growing. The blades of wild cereal grass are about an inch tall.

In the past I have seen a hot snap come along and this early ‘greening’ turn brown and die. That could happen this year, too. But this is different somehow this year. I can already look across the Yavne’el Valley and SEE the greening on the distant ridge (or the Ramat Yavne’el). I can SEE it. This is amazing early in this year.

I will be watching things very closely for sure.Updated Nov 26, 2018, 7:46 PM
