Sometimes it’s so hard to describe what I see, to express with words so that it paints a picture in your head.

And then a perfect opportunity comes along.

I hope you can now see why I believe that ראש כרמל geres (grain, grits, groats) karmel did not refer to barley at the end of it’s maturity. I photographed the barley upside down so you can ‘see’ why barley could carry a word derived from all things pertaining to grapes. Upside down they look a bit like a cluster of grapes especially with the crimson color.

Lev 2:14 And if thou offer a meat offering of thy firstfruits unto the LORD, thou shalt offer for the meat offering of thy firstfruits green ears of corn dried by the fire, even

*corn-(**גרש**-grains, grit, groats) *beaten out of full ears-(**קרמל**-karmel)*

There’s only 2 Hebrew word for all those English words.

So much for getting out of lockdown. Here’s where Israel is going next:

3:04 P.M. Netanyahu aims to extend lockdown, Israel’s overland borders to close
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would bring the Health Ministry’s proposal to extend the lockdown for a government vote, and that a decision will be taken according to current infection rates.

Netanyahu also said that Israel will close its overland borders. “We were the first ones in the world to close our skies and not allow any commercial flights inti the country. We’ll add to that the closure of overland borders, including the border with Jordan.”

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Arye Dery said Israel’s two border crossings with Egypt and the Jordan River Crossing will be closed from Thursday until Sunday.

The Allenby Bridge crossing on the Israel-Jordan border, however, will remain open for West Bank residents.

Speaking at an event in Sderot along with Netanyahu, Health Minister Yuli Edelstein said he had asked the prime minister to convene the cabinet to discuss extending the lockdown. “We cannot abandon our medical workers in the hospitals with almost 1,200 patents in serious condition, and some 300 people on ventilators and patients in critical condition,” he said. “To end the lockdown in this situation would be true irresponsibility.” (Judy Maltz)Updated Jan 28, 2021, 4:15 PM

From Yave’el to the checkpoint at the 1949 Armistice Agreement Line (aka Checkpoint Charly) the wild oats reign supreme. The wild oats are so thick! They are everywhere and their seed heads are out and showing. I don’t know where the wild barley would come up in those thick mats of oats. From Yavne’el using the scenic road to Menahamiya the wild oats were starting to drop. This surprised me because while this specific area is agricultural (wheat field, row crops, and fruit trees) as far as the eye could see it is also at a considerably higher elevation than the field near my house. In the lower-lying areas like Tel Te’omim and along the road by the Jordan River to Sde Eliyahu the wild oats look ill, the rains have even been too much for even the oats in these areas., barley doesn’t like as much water as oats but even the oats were nearly drowned. Seed heads are out but they are yellowish and puny in many areas. No barley was seen outside of a few sporadic locations, but again, the wild oats are so thick.

The wild rock/arugula is already blooming in the Bet She’an area. Wild arugula is horseradish hot and brightly bitter. I’ve always wondered if this was the bitter herb after they crossed the Jordan River….it’s so thick and plentiful.
